Postdoctoral Researcher in Remote Sensing and Forest Monitoring

The Statistical Ecology and Forest Science Lab is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Remote Sensing and Forest Monitoring. The researcher will leverage a variety of remote sensing data products to generate insights on forest structural, compositional, and functional change in North Carolina National Forests as a result of Hurricane Helene. This includes assessing the use of multi-source remote sensing data fusion to estimate common forest fuel attributes across Western North Carolina and using such products to help assess the effectiveness of fuels management strategies. The researcher will work directly with Jeff Doser, Josh Gray, and Vaclav Petras at NC State University as well as a collaborative team of researchers across federal and state forestry agencies.

We are seeking a candidate with a PhD in remote sensing, forestry, geospatial analytics, or a related field. Strong candidates will have extensive experience in the processing of remote sensing data including LiDAR, SAR, and multispectral satellite imagery, as well as experience in statistical/machine learning modeling. This is a 2-year position located in Raleigh, North Carolina with an annual salary of $71,000. The expected start date is late 2026 or early 2027.
